I have been pondering this photo for some time, so I'm going to start with what irks me about the photo. I have a background in black and white 35mm+ film photography, first off. In that style of photography you strive to have a pure solid black somewhere on the photo. It's crucial. I can't find a pure, pure black. It comes close, but it doesn't quite get there. And I gave it a low score on originality simply for the fact that the holga/vintage picture has been done.

Originality in my opinion is the least important aspect. I mention constantly the Odalisque when talking of originality. It is a painting that has been done hundreds, if not thousands of times.

This photo though, the intensity of the model is balanced out by the faded colors. While I do fault that technically, it helps the model portray a feeling. The fact that the entire model is in the photo is pretty unique for the angle and I must applaud that, fantastic use of the entire frame here.

Finally impact, which I've already touched on a bit. I always look at that two ways. One, is does it challenge me? A little, but in the end I am spurred on by technical photos more so than feeling photos. The second way is does it make me react to it? And this one does that. I'm urged to think about it, ponder it, which I have done for the past hours.

I know there is something to it, that I can't put my finger on, and that is the beauty of this photo. It might be slightly technically flawed, but the power of those flaws in hand with the feeling of the model overcome that to create an astounding photo.
